June 20th marks World Psychedelic Day, and for Australians it has special significance psychedelic-assisted therapies in Australia this year.
Good news from the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration, as they will now allow for the prescription of MDMA to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and psilocybin to combat treatment-resistant depression. This new classification is a step forward in providing relief with alternative treatments that have been proven effective.
“People will continue to kill themselves, and my patient will continue to suffer in silence until the Victorian Government allows me to access a new treatment which may finally bring peace to a troubled mind,” says Dr. Eli Kotler.
“Australian native ‘magic mushrooms’ may have evolved different methods for psilocybin production and offer adaptations that are preferential for use in clinical treatments,” explains University of Queensland mycologist Dr. Alistair McTaggart.
Psychae Institute will collaborate with other clinical research organizations to develop novel psychedelic medicines and accompanying psychotherapeutic treatment models.
