While eccentric billionaire Elon Musk may have his sights set on outer space, he is also open to improving his inner space, and he says you should be too.
Musk has also predicted that as younger generations take up leadership positions in governments, the benefits of psychedelics will be more widely accepted and appreciated.
During an interview before a live audience at CodeCon 2021 on September 28, Field Trip Health Co-Founder Ronan Levy asked Musk: “What role do think psychedelics may have in addressing some of the more destructive tendencies of humanity?”
“I think generally people should be open to psychedelics,” Musk responded. “A lot of people making laws are from a different era. As a new generation gets into political power, I think we will see greater receptivity to the benefits of psychedelics.”
Currently ranked as the world’s richest person by Forbes, Musk has a net worth of $199.4 billion, ahead of Amazon Founder and Executive Chairman Jeff Bezos, whose net worth currently sits at $192.3 billion. Musk’s wealth stems from his various entrepreneurial and business ventures, including being the Founder, CEO, and Chief Engineer at aerospace manufacturer and space transportation company SpaceX and an early investor, CEO, and Product Architect at the electric vehicle and clean energy company Tesla.
Despite not speaking plainly about his own experiences with psychedelics, there has been much speculation around Musk’s possible use of these drugs in fueling his success, with the billionaire tweeting several times about DMT. One 2020 tweet read: “Laws of thermodynamics: 1. You can’t win. 2. You can’t break even. 3. You can’t stop playing. Unless you’re on DMT.” In 2019, he also tweeted a meme about DMT.
In 2018, the entrepreneur also appeared on the popular Joe Rogan Experience podcast, where he smoked a marijuana joint with the host. However, this led to an extensive safety investigation of SpaceX by NASA and Musk apologizing for smoking with Rogan. In an email to SpaceX employees, Musk said “it was not wise” to consume marijuana and that “SpaceX personnel may not use or possess any controlled substance while in the workplace, and also may not be under the influence of legal or illegal drugs while at work.”
Musk is just the latest public figure to endorse the healing potential of psychedelics. Recently, actress Megan Fox opened up about her experience with ayahuasca which she said: “surpasses talk therapy or hypnotherapy.” Actress Kristen Bell has also spoken publicly about her use of psychedelic mushrooms to help her manage anxiety and depression, and heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson has credited 5-MeO-DMT for his return to boxing and his 100 pound weight loss.
